About

Chet April 12th, 2007

I started playing guitar at age 11 and have taken private lessons with many excellent guitar instructors including Ken McMahon, John Vaughn, Tim Bedner, and Tony Janflone Sr. In 1999 Ken helped me record a version of Always With Me Always With You, a Joe Satriani song, which I submitted to the Summer Guitar Workshop at Duquesne University. We thought it sounded pretty good and the folks at Duquesne agreed by awarding me a scholarship to attend the workshop. I also went the World Guitar Congress in 2004 and took classes taught by Alan Holdsworth, Eric Johnson, Marty Friedman, and many more influential guitarists.

I played in a local rock band which achieved moderate success and recorded a few CD’s The group disbanded in 2005 due to musical and creative differences and have yet to be contacted by VH-1 regarding their Behind the Music special.

Also its important to note that I am the luckiest man in the world. I’m happy to say that I’m getting married in Mach 2008 to my fiance Liz. She offered to write this “About” page claiming she could write a book. Unfortunately the offer was declined. Here is a picture of us at the beach.

I’m currently in school working for a degree in computer science and thought that this website would be a good project for me to combine my interests and hopefully provide some helpful content for my students and other guitarists. Now that I’ve settled on using WordPress for organizing the content, I should be able to post a scale, chord progression, or bit of random commentary pretty regularly. Let me know if you’d like to see any specific topic on guitHelp by leaving a comment or emailing me at admin at guithelp dot com.

Hi: I am contacting you because I also use the FallSeason theme and have been trying to create two sidebars for my index page with no success… can you possibly tell me what changes are necessary? I’d really appreciate it!

Sure, I made a few changes in style.css and sidebar.php. Those are both located in the theme folder. Basically I added a new div tag “leftnav” in the sidebar file and then specified where it would go in the style file(look for #leftnav). All the stuff I wanted on the left I just put inside div id = leftnav in the sidebar file. Also I made some other changes in the stylesheet in order to shift the right sidebar and primary column to the right to make room.

Look the whole thing over to see where I made changes.

I’d keep a backup of those two files in case anything goes wrong. Good Luck!
